A Thousand Words

I’ve been learning how to use my D300 and how to take better shots. Yesterday, I went for a walk with my camera and left it on manual the whole time. I’m starting to feel more and more comfortable with my photography, especially with this complex of a camera, and, not surprising, the more I learn the less complex it is. I’ll be heading to Death Valley in a week and a half for one of my photo vacations, my first with the D300. Hopefully it’ll turn out well!

Beautiful photo. I recently picked up a Canon A590IS so that I can use CHDK with it to experiment with exposure bracketing to create some high-dynamic-range photos. I’ve seen some interesting results with focus bracketing as well, and may have to give that a try. I’m definitely not much of a photographer (can’t seem to find the time), but enjoying playing with the toys available.
p.s. Loving the posts over at RD regarding Pharyngula.

Thank you kindly for the compliments.
Yes, there are a TON of things I want to do. It’s amazing to watch a video of someone using my exact camera to do all sorts of really cool things, then to look at it and scratch my head, myself.
Baby steps, though… just have to keep at it. I don’t have NEARLY the amount of time that I’d love to invest into my photography, so I just take what I get whenever I can get it. I’m actually considering getting one of those small, tabletop studios with a nice white background and a couple of lights so that I can do some “studio” work in my apartment with flowers and such.
HDR is awesome. Some of the most amazing shots come out of that. I don’t have a really great tripod right now, but I’m hoping to at least attempt some HDR while I’m in Death Valley, or at least get some bracketed shots so that I can come back and play with it.
