Sweet, Sweet Republican Tears

As I was watching the Inauguration on Tuesday, I kept thinking to myself, "Wow, Obama is really bitchslapping Bush. Good. He deserves it.", but I wasn’t sure whether or not I was making a big deal out of it. Apparently not. Seems that the plane trip from Washington DC to Texas was full of crying GOPs.
Personally, I think they deserve it - and then some. You don’t do what you did to this country and then just get to walk away from it pretending like you actually accomplished something. While Bush, himself, seemed oblivious to the whole thing, his supporters are throwing fits.
Mr. McKinnon said there were good wishes for the new president and “an absence of malice one normally sees among the constituencies of the vanquished.” But he also said there were “some critical reviews of the speech, complaints about taking unnecessary shots and grousing about borrowed ideas.”
Right, so after attacking Obama at every step in the road during the candidacy, they now want a medal for not acting like the jerks they are during the transition. Umm… no?
Can these guys whine any harder? Oh wait, they can!
Mr. Rove, who was on the plane to Texas, wrote in The Wall Street Journal that as his former boss departed Washington, “in a last angry frenzy his critics again distorted his record, maligned his character and repeated untruths about his years in the Oval Office,” adding that “nothing they wrote or said changes the essential facts.”
Mr. Rove went on to define Mr. Bush’s legacy as the two of them see it. The former president, he wrote, was ultimately right about Iraq and right about his tactics in the war on terrorism. He cut taxes “for every American who pays taxes,” appointed conservative judges, began an unprecedented campaign to fight AIDS in Africa, expanded Medicare to cover prescription drugs and introduced the No Child Left Behind education accountability program
“He didn’t get everything right — no president does — but he got the most important things right,” Mr. Rove wrote. “And that is enough.”
*cough* *choke* *cough* Once again, Karl Rove is living in another world. No, he cut taxes for the rich, told Africans that if they just stop having sex, they won’t get AIDS, did nothing to fight the war on terrorism other than make sure we were targets OVER THERE instead of over here, left plenty of children behind with his retarded unfunded mandate, and let’s not get started on the economy. By my count, he didn’t do anything right, but then again I’m one of those classless liberals that like educated people in office.
More crying? You betcha! Get prepared for eight years of it!
Mr. Thiessen, in The Washington Post, focused his argument on the fact that terrorists never struck American soil again after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, calling that Mr. Bush’s singular legacy. “If Obama weakens any of the defenses Bush put in place and terrorists strike our country again, Americans will hold Obama responsible — and the Democratic Party could find itself unelectable for a generation,” he wrote.
Let’s not forget that 9/11 actually occurred during Bush’s presidency. It makes no difference what did or did not come after it. It only matters that during it, it happened… and before anyone gets all defensive about it being his first year, there are plenty of people saying he ignored warnings that 9/11 was going to occur. It is completely inappropriate and utterly stupid to congratulate Bush on not letting another terrorist attack happen.
I find Obama’s candidness during his speech refreshing. Not to mention immediately going to work and closing down Gitmo. I have a lot of hope in my heart that it’s going to continue. So just get used to crying, GOP. You’re going to be doing a lot of it in the years to come.
